A cerca del libro: Review and expansion of a study on the necropolis of El Burgo de Osma (Soria, Spain).
The author attempts to paint of a small community buried in the cloister of El Burgo de Osma Cathedral (Spain) during the 17thand 18th centuries. To do so, he uses the historical references of the period, the characteristics of the religious edifice, archeological data, anthropometric analyses of the exhumed individuals and, over all, the paleopathological study of bone remains.
All the sources that were consulted point to the possibility that the individuals buried in the cloister of the Cathedral were mendicants –including women, men, children and the elderly, all with significant diseases and physical defects.
The words of the reknowned archeologist Don Brothwell “no social reconstruction can be considered complete without the examination of the physical structure and health of the community” take on a specific meaning for the study of this in an unusual necropolis.
