A Review of Windows Defender

If you’re looking for a low-cost, easy-to-use security, you won’t do much better than the security suite that is built into Windows 10 and 11. It’s also known as Windows Security or Microsoft Defender and it includes security against viruses and devices monitoring, a firewall, kid protection (you can restrict what your children can do online) and many other features.

It also comes with a password manager as well as an anti-phishing tool, among other features. Its firewall can monitor connections to and from the outside including Wi-Fi networks. It also has an option to allow you to review the details of suspicious connections.

In our tests, the software did a decent job blocking the majority of fake websites and dangerous downloads. Its reputation-based protection system uses a massive online database to assign apps and websites reputation scores. Applications with low scores are blocked automatically. It also offers protection against exploits. This protects against attacks attempting to alter the settings of your computer.

While it does a solid job overall, it’s not quite as effective as the malware detection rates of standalone competitors like Norton or Bitdefender. It does include a password manager, however it isn’t equipped with other useful features like an optimizer for your PC or VPN. The options for customer support are vast. There is a large community of users with comprehensive FAQs and forums as well as a variety of ways to reach a tech expert via email or live chat.
